The aim of the project, called Spotkanie z filologią (Meetings with Philology), is to start a cooperation of the Institute of English Studies (IES) with Liceum no 7 in Gliwice. The project is the answer to an invitation extended by a former student of the IES, who at present is working as a teacher of English in the school. The main part of the project involves designing and conducting classes that focus on various topics connected with English studies. Our teaching follows the principles of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), an approach which facilitates learning about a given subject (content) and at the same time developing foreign language skills. The CLIL activities include workshops, interactive lectures, designing video materials and are realized as traditional classes in Kraków and Gliwice, as well as on MsTeams and the project website. Our hope is to create an educational platform that will prepare secondary school students to use English as linqua franca in their future lives and help them to develop soft skills, such as critical thinking, research skills, abilities to cooperate in a group, self-evaluation skills. The project supports the aims of POB and 4I strategies, research strategies promoted by the Jagiellonian University.
